The north side of the Marketplace is a troublesome beast. For a start it was often still known as Lynn Street. Even today the old Post Office, now a funeral parlour, has a postcode of 19, Marketplace and yet is well beyond the street sign of Lynn Street.
Over the years buildings have been resized, demolished, and renumbered. Sometimes it is impossible to say with any confidence whether a modern house or business is exactly where it may have been 200 years ago.
Some businesses were in courts behind the frontages.
Different researchers reach different conclusions. These are our interpretations, but we are very open to views, recollections, opinions and evidence.
