The Plowright Family

House ca.1790. Now shops and flat. converted 20c.
Ground floor rebuilt 1962. Grade II listed

The Plowright family owned a considerable number of properties along this stretch.

This building was once their home. William Plowright (1774-1846), an ironmonger and brazier, was the father of Henry who built the engineering works on the Marketplace. The original works were on Lynn Street.

By the 1960s the Plowright house had become part of its business. It divided into two when Plowrights closed.

Papworth butchers were established here before 1994
