19th-20th Century

When The Crown closed the building quickly became the home of several businesses. This image, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century, shows from left to right Lane’s cycle shop, the Conservative Club, entrance to Crown Yard and Buntings.

North Side

1906 Election

The space taken by The Crown was divided into two shops on either side of the old entrance where there were other businesses in the Crown Yard at the rear.

This image was also probably of the 1906 election campaign which Thomas Hare (Con) lost to Richard Winfrey (Lib)
