Dipple and Conway

Brooke Taylor may have lived here around 1850 to 1858. A practising solicitor he then emigrated to New Zealand.

The white building was the home of Edward John Plowright and his family between his marriage to Edith Blunt in 1890 and 1901.

Other people who lived here include Harry Hudson Vince in 1939. The house was then called Haslemere.

In 1963 the former private house was converted by newcomers Peter and Alfreda Matsell who took over the property previously occupied by Mr Cator.

The shop remained, as before, as a confectionary, cigarettes and pastry shop and was renamed Pedlar’s Pantry, but the ground floor front room became a fashion house run by Mrs Matsell. The double bow window was added in 1967.

Mrs Matsell’s boutique dressed the ladies of Swaffham for 36 years.
